Kia ora, I'm Awhi Fleming (Ngāti Porou, Rongowhakaata, Ngāti Kahungunu), director and independent consultant at Paekura.

Paekura is an advisory practice that helps organisations align their strategy, funding and operations. I work with senior leaders and boards to strengthen financial performance, sharpen strategic direction, and improve how organisations are set up to achieve their goals.

I established Paekura because I saw a pattern I could help with: organisations with an inspiring purpose, but where strategy, funding arrangements or operational settings were getting in the way of achieving that purpose.

It's a pattern I've seen from multiple angles. Leading the spending review function at Te Tai Ōhanga - The Treasury, I advised Ministers on the efficiency of public spending and how to improve the value of services for New Zealanders. This work meant understanding the gap between what an organisation is set up to do and what it's actually achieving, then giving advice that was technically grounded and practical about options to improve value and performance. Before that, I held senior regulatory and representative roles in the UK financial services sector. Across 15+ years in public finance, government operations and regulatory settings, I've built deep expertise in diagnosing where strategy, funding and operations are misaligned — and how to fix it.
